Father's Day in the United States falls on the third Sunday of June. In 2026 the date is Sunday, June 21. The UK, Canada, France, Mexico, and most of Europe celebrate the same day. Australia and New Zealand celebrate later, on the first Sunday of September (September 6 in 2026). The holiday in its current US form was first observed in 1910 in Spokane, Washington, championed by Sonora Smart Dodd. It became a permanent national holiday in 1972 under President Nixon, more than half a century after Mother's Day was made official.
